Other Supporting Materials Examples (not requirements):  Recognition of Clinical Activities such as patient thank you letters (redact patient names for confidentiality)  Recognition of scholarly work and expertise  Copies of select publications  Service recognition  Thank you letters  CV

Tenure vs. Promotion - Expectations  Tenure: Do you have a continued long-term need and value to the department, school, university, field? What will you do for the department, school, and university in the future; What is your long- term academic professional plan?

Tenure Applicants  You should include a statement of your present and future value in your Statement of Endeavors  Can be a separate section at the end of your Statement of Endeavors OR you can include a short paragraph at the end of each section in the Statement of Endeavors

Tenure vs. Promotion - Expectations  Promotion: How do you meet or exceed the requirements for the rank you are applying for? What have you contributed to the department, school, university, field up until this point? What are your future plans? If you have been promoted previously at UH, what have you contributed to UH since your last promotion?

Minimum Requirements  Make sure that you meet all minimum requirements for years of service and educational requirements  Check UH Executive Policies – Personnel Policies for minimum requirements _promotion_contract_renewal/pdf/Appendix_A.pdf  You must be in current rank for a minimum of 4 years at UH before applying for next rank

What if I need a waiver?  If you require a waiver of minimum requirements, please let us know, we can help you draft a waiver request  Waiver requests are due to your Chair by August 1.  Waivers must be approved by your Department Chair and the Dean  Approved waivers must be inserted into the dossier

How Do I Meet the Criteria?  Explain how you meet all applicable criteria in your Statement of Endeavors  Provide documentation to support how you meet the criteria in your Supporting Materials section

Criteria  Department:Check to see if you have department criteria that must be met  School:If you are an MD faculty, determine if the M-series criteria is applicable to your role and duties  UH: Check the University’s criteria and minimum requirements for appropriate faculty series and rank applying for

Criteria – Associate Professor (for both I and M faculty) Main criteria (from UH Criteria/Guidelines):  “…should be well on the way to becoming an established scholar in his or her discipline.”

Criteria – Professor (for both I and M faculty) Main criteria (from UH Criteria/Guidelines):  “The significance and distinction of the scholarly achievement should clearly place the faculty member at the forefront of the discipline or field.” (from UH Executive Policies – Minimum Requirements)  “…research productivity which has resulted in significant recognition by the national or international community of scholars active in the same field”
