Knowledge dissemination for informed decision-making in a changing climate Lessons from the AfricaAdapt Network MOUSSA NA ABOU Mamouda AfricaAdapt Knowledge-Sharing Network Coordinator On behalf of the AfricaAdapt Team

OUTLINE  Why does knowledge sharing matter in a changing climate?  How can knowledge sharing help decision making in a changing climate?  What is AfricaAdapt doing to promote KS for decision making?  Some challenges to address

Why does adaptation knowledge dissemination matter?  Climate is changing: how? When? Where? What?  Development targets impacted by CC are also changing

How can knowledge sharing help decision making in a changing climate? Sharing existing experiences and success stories offers options … for decision making

Availability of several options …  Reduces uncertainty,  Saves time and resources and peed up decision making.

What is AfricaAdapt doing to promote KS for decision making?

Policy /decisi on maker s Research Vulnerable groups Media Donors Trust Relationships

SOME CHALLENGES TO ADDRESS  Knowledge sometimes not in the way policy/decision makers can access/understand it  Knowledge producers often do not want to be bound to external demand  Lack of “policy-relevant” knowledge   Credibility, reliability, trust  Difficulty to communicate, interact, engage with policy/decision makers in knowledge sharing
