Copyright Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd October 21, 1998 Current Status of WG1/Ad-hoc8 ● The 3nd WG1/Ad-hoc8 meeting was held on September 28. ● In order to guarantee a minimum bit rate on AV data recording/playback, three kinds of technical requirements are summarized on this ad-hoc meeting as follows; (1) AV File Structure and Extent Allocation Method (2) Defect Management Method (3) Interface Protocol and Commands on PC environments ● These technical requirements were confirmed on October 16, and will be reported to WG3 /WG5 of DVD Forum and Mt.Fuji meeting respectively.

Copyright Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd October 21, 1998 Technical Requirements on Drive I/F WG1/Ad-hoc8 concluded the technical requirements for Drive Interface functions as follows (1) To report allocation data of physically non-contiguous areas such as ★ Defective sectors registered in PDL/SDL and ★ Zone Boundaries (2) To write AV data continuously on skipping “Defective ECC block(s)” if detected (3) To report allocation data of skipped “Defective ECC block(s)” on WRITE operation (4) To read AV data continuously, even if “Defective ECC block(s)” is detected (5) To report allocation data of erroneous AV data transferred on READ operation

Copyright Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd October 21, 1998 Summary ● The common technical requirements for both “RTRW Video Recording format” and “Digital Streamer format” was summarized in the last WG1/Ad-hoc8 meeting, and confirmed on October 16. ● WG1/Ad-hoc8 requests the technical solutions to WG3/WG5 of DVD Forum and Mt.Fuji meeting respectively. (This process has already agreed on the last TCG meeting.) ● In order to accelerate technical discussions and to define technical solutions smoothly, Matsushita proposes to establish a new SWG of Mt.Fuji meeting.
