Last – Later - Latter Later, Latter; Latest, Last Later is the opposite of earlier. It refers to time. You are later than I expected. He came later. Latter is the opposite of former. It refers to position. The former half of the film is more interesting than the latter half. 1. Being the second of two persons or things mentioned: Between Soldier, Captain and Major, the latter is the higher rank. 2. Near or nearer to the end: the latter part of the book. 3. Further advanced in time or sequence; later: a style that has been revived in latter times. Latest means the most recent. It refers to time. She keeps herself up to date with the latest trends in fashion. I haven’t heard the latest news. Last is the opposite of first. It refers to position. The last chapter is very difficult to learn. Ours is the last house in the street. Last – Later - Latter
