Self Esteem
I. Self Esteem The confidence, pride, and respect one has for oneself. Self-esteem consists of five domains.
A. Identity Who you are. This includes personality, attitudes, and beliefs.
B. Connection The need to belong and feel appreciated.
C. Competence Knowledge of what you can do.
D. Purpose Having goals and making progress toward reaching them.
E. Power Self-control over thoughts, words, attitudes, choices, and actions.
II. Self-Centered Behavior Behavior in which a person acts in ways to fulfill their own needs and desires with little regard for other’s needs and wishes.
III. Self-Destructive Behavior Behavior in which a person harms themself. Behaviors include: –Drug use –Alcohol abuse –Self-abuse
IV. Self-Loving Behavior Healthful and responsible behavior that indicates a person believes they are worthwhile and loveable.
