Commissioning in 6LoWPAN Ki-Hyung Kim (picosNet Corp/Ajou University) and S. Daniel Park (SAMSUNG Electronics) 6LoWPAN WG, IETF69, Chicago

IETF69 Chacago24 Jul 2007 The Goal of the Commissioning  Defines the procedure taken by 6LoWPAN devices when they first start operation.  Involves starting a new network, becoming part of existing network and obtaining IP settings.

IETF69 Chacago24 Jul 2007 Terminology  Active Scan  Association  Coordinator  ED Scan  Full Function Device (FFD)  Neighbor Table  PAN Id  Passive Scan  Personal Operating Space (POS)  Reduced Function Device (RFD)  Short Address

IETF69 Chacago24 Jul 2007 Bootstrapping  Associating with the network and obtaining IPv6 address.  Specifically, it includes the process of  starting the network,  associating with other nodes,  obtaining the unique IPv6 address,  and constructing security credentials for 6LoWPAN

IETF69 Chacago24 Jul 2007 Bootstrapping Procedure  Consists of the following steps  Scanning through channels  Starting a new network  Joining the network with association  Joining the network without association  Setting the beacon data structure  Assigning the short address  Obtaining IPv6 address

IETF69 Chacago24 Jul LoWPAN Interoperability TestBed  6LoWPAN Interoperability TestBed Plan in Korea  KOREN (KOrea advanced REsearch Network)   Building Sensor Network testbeds in 8 major cities in Korea connected by KOREN  Testing the commissioning and routing protocols of 6lowpan  Action Plans  Deploying the testbeds in August, 2007  Demonstrating the interoperability in September, 2007  The testbed will be shown from the mid of September through (

IETF69 Chacago24 Jul 2007 Next Steps  Feedback is welcome  Any comments/suggestions?  Is the WG interested in this draft as a WG item?
