EVALUATION QUESTION 3 WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR PRODUCT AND WHY?

WHAT IS A FILM DISTRIBUTOR? WHAT DO THEY DO?  They are part of the Distribution deals that are an important part of financing a film.  Independent distributors normally examine films at festivals to acquire the film so that they can distribute.  They create deals with the cinema, festivals, DVD sales, TV channels etc.  They are in control of everything that happens between production and exhibition.

INDIE FILM DISTRIBUTION COMPANIES

BIG SIX DISTRIBUTORS  Disney  The Warner Brothers  Viacom  Comcast  News Corporation  Sony (Columbia)

I WOULD CHOOSE THE WARNER BROTHERS TO DISTRIBUTE MY PRODUCT  They have distributed many films which have been highly successful.  They have a big fan base already established so the product would reach more people.  They have worked with other Companies from the big six but are unlikely to work with independent companies  They have distributed Inception, The Dark Knight and The Town which are all thriller films, so our film fits a genre they have experience in distributing.

WHY THEY WOULD CHOOSE TO DISTRIBUTE YOUR FILM  Warner Brothers have produced many thrillers including The Matrix, Mad Max Fury Road and The Dark Knight. These films are successful which means they would be keen on distributing more thrillers like ours.

WHAT SERVICES ARE THEY ABLE TO OFFER  They Publicise the film, sometimes having a premier, when starting to release the trailers for the film. They usually decide the release date for the film, when they start to distribute it.
