Language and Religion The official language is Azerbaijani. It is a tongue of Turkish. It is the Language that 90.3% of the people speak. Their religion is Muslim. Some people also practice Russian Orthodox and Armenian Orthodox.

Arts and Literature They work hard to preserve cultural identity. They proudly point to people that built their cultural tradition

Geography Its capital is Baku It is a landlocked country It has a subtropical climate

Form of Government It has a Republic It had become free from the Soviet Union on August 30th, 1991 Their constitution was adopted on October 18th It has a legislative, Judicial, and Executive branches During the Soviet Union, Azerbaijan went through a time of uncertainty

Economic Systems Its GDP per capitia is $10,400 It has many industries Its exports are oil and gas, cotton, machinery, and foodstuffs Its imports are machinery and equipment, oil products, foodstuffs, metals, and chemicals

Customs and traditions The Azerbaijan people have many beliefs on superstitions. They hold their national traditions sacred. They also have strong family traditions.

Social organization They have a social order. Classes that were wealthy in pre-soviet times lost wealth during the Soviet era. Family background and education were vital to social status After the Soviet Union, wealth became more important for power and respect.

History The Scythians were the first to settle Azerbaijan Throughout its history they fought with the Armenians It was conquered by many people during their history Then in the 18th century they successfully defended themselves against the Ottoman Turks. They then had a short independence. The Russian empire followed and conquered them. They would then be occupied by the Ottomans and the British At this time they had brief independence again. They were then taken over by the Soviets. Once independent from them, Armenia reignited their hatred for each other.
