What is Coaching? Coaching is providing guidance, feedback, and direction to ensure successful performance Coaching is an act of supporting someone else to achieve personal and professional goals Coaching is different from traditional instruction –Teaching implies an end at content mastery –Coaching takes place over a lifetime

Common Elements of All Coaching Models Relationship — connection and caring: connection between the coach and the person being coached Objectives — goals or focus: identification of goal(s) of coaching session by person being coached Action — empowerment and challenge: identify meaningful, strategic actions assisting person being coached to visualize difference and determine actions to implement Review — celebrate, or redirect: coach and person being coached review outcome of coaching, celebrate successes, and confront and redirect if needed Common Elements of Coaching Source: Adapted from TeamSTEPPS 2.0 Master Training Program

Organizational Lead Perspective Webinars are preferred over calls –Data reports –Tools –Can demonstrate how to access websites and reporting databases Use your national faculty contact to help present material and/or offer encouragement and praise to the facilities Review key messages or information from the webinars Ask individual facilities to talk about some of their special projects or “Aha” moments Think of some questions to ask and perhaps call on individual facilities to keep the interaction lively Silence can be painful, but you need to pause for a minute to give facilities who may be bashful a chance to speak up 9
