Meet the team Year 1Mc Thursday 8th October
Meet the team Welcome to Year 1 Mc The teachers who will be working with your child this year: Mrs McCaffery (Class Teacher) Mrs Stone (Teaching Assistant) Miss Handley (Teacher- Monday afternoon) Mrs Poole (Teacher- Wednesday morning)
Transition from Reception to Year 1 Now your child has entered Year 1 they will be following the KS1 National Curriculum. Teaching is based around a theme similar to the Foundation Stage e.g. Space. We try to make learning as enjoyable as possible for the children. The Foundation Stage provides a solid foundation of which all future learning builds upon. Moving into Year 1 children are introduced to a slightly more formal curriculum. We recognise that Key Stage 1 is different from the Foundation Stage and so we do everything we can to ensure the children feel happy and comfortable during this transition.
Our goals Our Goals are: To support pupils adapting to the Year One routine. To develop children’s level of independence and maturity. To provide an environment suitable to more formal learning with interesting and fun interactive activities. To provide a balanced and stimulating curriculum based upon the National Curriculum, differentiated to suit the needs of each child. To develop a love of learning!

Homework in Year 1 Spellings are sent home on a Monday. They are linked to Phonic work that is being worked on that week. On Friday there will be an informal test. You do not need to bring the completed sheet back in, this an aid to help the child at home. If your child has any gaps from previous Phonics work in Reception we will support them in school through intervention groups to plug these gaps. Children also work on HFW and I have provided a list of these words to take home today. Literacy and Maths homework is sent home on a Friday to be returned the following Wednesday. All work will be linked to work completed in class. We may occasionally add a homework linked to another subject e.g. Science, History. Please read with your child every evening when possible. When you have listened to your child read, please sign their record book and their book will then be changed. We do not listen to your child read their school/home reading book, this is for home reading. In school we listen to your child read twice a week during guided reading sessions.
Handover at the end of the day At the end of the day parents will form a line outside the classroom door. We will then handover your child to the person you have agreed to take your child home. Please fill in the form today with the list of adults you allow us to handover your child to. Thank you for coming.
