An Expanding Nation By: Karsyn Frank #: 9

The Transcontinental Railroad The Transcontinental Railroad was built by two companies, The Union Pacific, and The Central Pacific. The companies got paid for every mile that they did so the two companies decided to have a race. The Central Pacific had to build the tracks on mountain but the Union Pacific built on flat land. However a chief from Lakota named Red Cloud told the Union Pacific to stop building the tracks it is scaring the buffalo.

The Gold Rush The news about the gold found in California spread and lots of people went to California to search for gold. So many people went to California that in 1850 it could become a state. People started to think that if there is gold here then where else is their gold. George Jackson went and searched the Rocky Mountains and in Denver Colorado by a small town in a creek he started finding gold flakes. Gold miners would usually only find gold dust.
