What is Religion?  As defined by Wikipedia, religion is an organized set of beliefs and cultural systems that relate humanity in our order of existence.  In fact, religion is taught to us by the people that surround us and in this way, we have the chance to learn it by heart and by soul.  We may also share the same religion with our friends and neighbors.  There may be different types of religion that exist in our world, but all of us adore and praise only the same God.

What is Faith?  Faith is actually a privatized kind of religion.  Each of us expresses our faith in different ways like praying the rosary, lighting the candles, hearing the mass, attending worships and many more.

Aspects of Faith 1. FIDUCIAL  came from the word “FIDES” which means trust  Meaning: Only feeling religious or in need of God during the times of failure or difficulty  Example: When a student fails a test, it is the only time he or she asks help from God by praying. 2. ILLUMINATIVE:  Meaning: Knowledge or understanding  Examples: Bible reading, Prayer sessions/activities (Recollection, Retreat) Going to mass 3. PEFORMATIVE  Meaning: Living by God’s examples  Example: Helping or reaching out to those in need (Helping the poor by giving them money or food)

Jesus Christ  God  Saviour Anointed One/Messiah

Enemies of Jesus  Sadducees/Pharisees - part of the ruling class of Israel - more concerned with politics more than religion

Enemies of Jesus  Sadducees - only considered the written word of God, especially the books of Moses - aristocrats: rich and powerful - held powerful positions: chief priests and high priests

Enemies of Jesus  Pharisees: - popular with masses and had their support - mostly middle-class businessmen - had minority of the seats in Sanhedrin (ruling council)
