Presentation transcript:

Instructions for Game & Template Use Start the game by asking all teams the question in the first square on the board. The team that rings their bell first, answers the question. If they answer correctly, they receive the appropriate money award and choose the next question square. You can subtract the award money for wrong answers if you so choose, or you can eliminate this component and only give money for correct answers, thus eliminating any penalty. Make sure all participants know to state their answer in Jeopardy format beginning with “What is....” If they forget to do so, they cannot receive credit for their answer and the award can be subtracted from their total. Click on the top headings to advance to Final Jeopardy. Participants can wager all or part of their winnings during final Jeopardy, and thus loose it if their answer is wrong or earn it if their answer is correct. When clicking on the slide to move to the next appropriate slide, be sure you see the hand icon, and not the arrow. (If you put your cursor over a text box, it will be an arrow and WILL NOT take you to the right location.)

Choose a category. You will be given the answer. You must give the correct question. Click to begin.

Alternative Energy Impacts of Global Warming Misc. $10 $20 $30 $40 $50 $10$10$10$10 $20 $20$20$20 $30 $40 $50 $30$30$30 $40$40$40 $50$50$50 Climate Change Traditional Energy

This energy source produces most of the CO 2 causing global warming.

Fossil Fuels

Fossil Fuels include which 3 major fuel sources?

Petroleum, Coal, and Natural Gas

Which is supposedly the “cleanest burning” fossil fuel?

Natural Gas

What is the biggest issue associated with Burning Fossil Fuels?

Global Warming

What are two types of primitive traditional energy sources still used?

Wood and Peat

Name a type of alternative energy that is made from an element?

Hydrogen

This is a type of alternative energy that comes from the inflow and outflow of water that turns turbines in a dam

Tidal Power

This is a type of alternative energy that comes from splitting atoms

Nuclear Fission

This is a type of alternative energy source that comes from crops, manure, or municipal waste.

Biomass

This is an alternative energy where atomic nuclei are combined. We are still working to be able to sustain a reaction of this type.

Nuclear Fusion

What is the greenhouse effect?

The natural trapping of heat and water vapor in the atmosphere to sustain life on Earth.

Name 3 Natural Processes leading to Climate Change.

Volcanic Eruptions, Ocean Circulation, and Solar Activity

What is a Heat Island and how can it contribute to Global Warming and Climate Change?

A metropolitan area that's warmer than the rural areas surrounding it due to human activity, concrete/asphalt and other building materials, and lack of vegetation. Building materials hold onto heat and elevate temperatures.

What are three natural Carbon Sinks?

Ocean, Wetlands, and Forests

What will be some negative results of climate change?

Melting of Ice Caps, Rising Sea Levels, Habitats Destroyed, Organisms Die.

How do fossil fuels impact climate change?

They add CO 2 to the atmosphere and cause unnatural warming.

How will global warming affect people in the future?

Flood cities and low lying areas, turn areas into deserts, reduce water and food, cause violence and riots.

Is climate change a natural or an unnatural (manmade) process?

Both.

How does intense solar activity impact climate change?

Causes rises in Temperature and CO 2 following more intense solar activity.

How does tectonic activity change the climate of an area?

It causes the plates to move to different zones on the planet (more tropical, temperate or polar)

What is a weather pattern that causes a warming of surface waters off the coast of South America and can affect climate worldwide?

El Nino

How could we reduce heating in urban atmospheres?

Plant things on rooftops, use “cooler roof materials” and leave more trees and vegetation in the city (parks, landscaping, etc.)

What are the three climate zones on Earth?

Tropical, Temperate, and Polar.

What are some things that affect climate?

Latitude, Topography, Bodies of Water, Plants, Atmospheric Circulation.

What is the main Greenhouse Gas that humans do not contribute to?

Water Vapor

Make your wager

Name 3 Greenhouse Gases.

Name 3 - Carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, water vapor, and ozone
