When was it established? It was established on August 1, 1916.

Where is it located? The park is located on the island of Hawai’i.

Why do they have this park?  To educate people about the power of volcanoes and how they create new land.  For people to enjoy interesting plants and endangered animals such as “smiley face” spiders, hawksbill turtle and Hawaiian goose.

Famous Volcanoes? Volcano National Park holds the most active volcanoes in the world Kilauea and Mauna Loa!

Visitors Over 1.3 million people visited the park in 2010! My family was 4 of them!

Fun Facts  The word volcano originally comes from the name of the Roman god of fire, Vulcan.
