Sensors (v.5c)1 CENG4480 Digital Systems Design CENG4480_A1 Introduction Week 1

Sensors (v.5c)2 Overview §Part A l A1. Op Amps and Analog Interfacing l A2. Sensors l A3. ADDA l A4. PID control l A5. Self balance robot design l A6. transmission lines

Sensors (v.5c)3 Plans (part A) §A1. Sensors l Use of different sensors l Sensor characteristics §A2. Op Amps and Analog Interfacing l How to connect sensors to systems §A3. Analog-to-digital conversions ADDA l Internal operations of different ADDA devices

Sensors (v.5c)4 Project for the whole term §Choose your own topic and product to be built as long as it is interesting and you enjoy doing it. §Work on a project with the following elements: l Embedded system (using Arduino, Android, etc.) l Hardware interfacing techniques, such as Force (strain gauge), Motion, accelerometers, gyroscope Touch screen Self balancing robots balancing robots Sound.. l Software development Drivers Interfacing program development

Project discussion will be held during lab hours §A group of two students §12 Oct 2015 *(23:59 hour): Send a 2-page proposal to tutors: l Objectives l Plan (what will you achieve at ) Landmark 1 Final demo : last week of the term. l Budget (don’t buy items before the budget is examined and permitted by the tutors). Remember: Keep formal receipts for reimbursement after buying permitted items. §12 Nov 2015 (thur) lab time: Landamrk1 check and marked by tutors. Sensors (v.5c)5

CENG4480 Quizzes: Don’t worry, questions will be similar to class exercises §Quiz1: (wed) 30 Sept 2015, 20 minutes during lecture hours §Quiz2: (wed) 4 Nov 2015, 20 minutes during lecture hours §Other quizzes will be announced later Sensors (v.5c)6

Marking scheme §Part 1: Exercises, quizzes and laboratory assignments: 60% of the overall assessment. §Part 2: Final Examination: 40% of the overall assessment. §A student must gain at least 40% of the full marks in each part in order to pass the course. §Class exercise: In each lecture, a class exercise will be given to students, a student should complete the exercise and submit it to the professor at the end of the lecture. The total marks for class exercises are 10% of the whole course. Sensors (v.5c)7
