POD WEEK 11 Presenter: Aron Torres

THE PROBLEM Mrs. Reyes has two baking mixes. Mixture A is 30% sugar, 15% cinnamon, and the rest flour. Mixture B is ¾ sugar and ¼ flour. If she combines 2 cups of mixture A with 5 cups of mixture B, and adds 1 cup of flour, what percent of the resulting mixture will be flour?

1 ST STEP Okay I first converted 30% sugar, 15% cinnamon, and 55% flour (the rest was flour so I simply subtracted 30 and 15 from 100) into 30/100 sugar, 15/100 cinnamon, and 55/100 flour. Then for Mixture B, I turned 75% sugar, and 25% flour into 75/100 and 25/100.

2 ND STEP once I did that I added 15 and 30 and 55 to get 100, then I multiplied that by two and got 200. Then I multiplied 55 by two because you had to combine two cups of Mixture A and I got 110. So my fraction for the amount of flour in 2 cups of Mixture A was 110/200.

3 RD STEP 5I added 75 and 25 and got 100 then I multiplied that by 5 because the problem says that you combine 2 cups of mixture A with 5 cups of mixture B. and I got 500. then I multiplied 25 by 5 and got 125. so my fraction of flour in 5 cups of mixture B is 125/500.

4 TH STEP Then I added the two fractions 110/ /500 and I converted each to 550/1000 and 250/1000 then added 100/1000 because of the extra whole cup of flour added to the mix. So I ended up getting 800/1000, which converted to 80% flour.

MY ANSWER!! 80% OF THE RESULTING MIXTURE WOULD BE FLOUR.
