Establishing Required Training for Washington State Employees

Background DOP’s Development Services Division was tasked with converting appropriate “required” courses from instructor-led to online courses.

Preliminary Activities The Director of DOP, Eva Santos, provided her definition of “required” and directed that this definition be brought to the state’s training managers for their input. RequiredTraining

StepDue DateStatus Present the first-draft definition of “required” training and a list to the State Training Managers for development. August 25, 2010 At the State Training Managers meeting, a draft definition of “required” training and a list was developed. By September 10th the finished definition was ready to take to Eva Santos for her review. Present draft definition and list to Eva Santos, DOP Director, for her approval. October 12, 2010 Eva agreed to the final definition recommended. She felt that it was important to share this definition and the associated list with the deputies so that they could support our efforts and decisions on prioritizing the online courses. Presented the definition and course list with State’s HR Advisory Group for their consideration on priorities for courses to move to online. November 18, 2011 Complete. HR Advisory Group reviewed definition and list and agreed to its content. No recommendations received. Review the definition and course list with State’s Deputies for their consideration on priorities for courses to move to online. Also seek their recommendation on “Ethics” training. March 1, 2011 Complete. Mike Sellars, DOP Deputy Director sent the document to the deputies. Deputy Directors reviewed the definition and list and agreed to its content. No recommendations received. Presented the definition and course list with State’s HR Directors for their consideration on priorities for courses to move to online. Also seek their recommendation on “Ethics” training. April 6, 2011 Complete. HR Directors reviewed definition and list and agreed to its content. No recommendations received. What’s Happened So Far

What We Need Today Have State Training Managers prioritize the required classes for candidates for on-line learning and the order to be worked on. Publish on the DOP website by May 1, 2011

Here is How We’ll Do It  Each person gets one sheet  Each person gets three votes  You cannot use more than one vote on each choice  You can vote for a course that is “grayed out”  Turn your sheet in to DOP before leaving today

Thank you for Helping Us Prioritize Our work.
