Vision for Blacksburg Middle School -Inspire learning by providing a nurturing environment, positive relationships, and high expectations. -Mission: Every student will graduate career and college ready and become a 21 st century productive citizens. -All aligned with Montgomery County’s six year continuous improvement plan.

Qualifications: -Invested in the community. Current teacher at Blacksburg Middle. -Local. Born and raised in nearby Christiansburg, VA -Experience working with the diverse ethnic backgrounds of students who come to Blacksburg Middle, largely because of nearby Virginia Tech. (ISLLC Standard 4)

Goals -Have all students graduate college and career ready (ISLLC Standard 1) ◦- Collaborate with all stakeholders to develop a plan to implement goals ◦- All changes backed by data ◦-Revisit and evaluate plans quarterly -Implement best practice methods of teaching. (ISLLC Standard 2) ◦- Implement 21 st Century technology to engage students ◦-Monitor and provide feedback to teachers implementing new teaching methods -Continuous academic improvement from teachers and students ◦-Provide professional development opportunities for teachers ◦- Advocate students self-monitor their own progress (ISLLC Standard 5 a-b)

Demographics of Blacksburg -88% pass rate English SOL, 76% pass rate Math SOL, 86% pass rate Science SOL, 80% pass rate Writing SOL -10.2% Special Education Students -22% of students have free/reduced lunch – lower than state and national averages -19% of students are identified gifted. - Large students who are on track for dual enrolled and AP classes in high school. -Parents are involved in their children’s education. Take advantage of that by involving the school with the community at large.

Conclusion -Highly qualified to meet the unique needs of Blacksburg Middle School -Experience working with the diverse student body and various levels of both gifted and special education students -Invested in the community and involving all stakeholders
