Researching Careers Career Preparation Mr. Kretschmer

Jed According to an interest test he took, Jed should give serious thought to a career as a computer programmer. But Jed isn’t sure exactly what a computer programmer does.

Jed What sources might Jed use to learn more about a career in computer programming? What things besides his interests should Jed think about before deciding whether or not to pursue a career in computer programming? How might Jed get the name of a working computer programmer for a career consultation?

Carmen Carmen has an aptitude for math. She has two decisions to make. First, she has to choose between two part-time jobs. One is a job as a waitress; the other is a clerical job in a bank. Carmen’s second decision is whether to baby-sit at night to earn extra money for clothes or to take an evening computer class.

Carmen How can Carmen find out more about math- related careers? Which part-time job should she choose? Why? Should Carmen take the computer class or work as a baby-sitter? Why?
