European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) Villafranca del Castillo, MADRID (SPAIN) Pedro Osuna VOSpec Kyoto May 2005 A little bit of history  After IVOA meeting in Strasbourg, first implementation of a SSAP (Simple Spectral Access Protocol) in VO, done for the full ISO archive. It includes dimensional analysis metadata to allow superimposition of spectra in different units. A basic version of the dimensional analysis algorithm was also provided (Nov 2003)  Use of ISO SSAP service during the AVO demo (Astrophysical Virtual Observatory) in Garching. Only for LWS and not all the metadata used by the spectral application (Specview) (Jan 2004)  VOSpec implementation started by Isa Barbarisi to prove the use of the dimensional analysis algorithm (Jan 2004)

European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) Villafranca del Castillo, MADRID (SPAIN) Pedro Osuna VOSpec Kyoto May 2005 A little bit of history (continued…)  SSAP service for INES, including dimensional metadata (SVO) (May 2004)  First VOSpec public release and demo during IVOA meeting (Sep 2004 Pune) and ADASS XIV (Oct 2004 Pasadena)  Other projects provide SSAP services following VOSpec howto recommendations: HST (FOS), SDSS, HyperLeda, FUSE and more to come… (Oct, Nov & Dec 2004)  Use of VOSpec and SSAP services during the AVO demo held in ESAC (Jan 2005)  Spectral Theoretical Models added to VOSpec, under SVO/ESA-VO collaboration (Apr 2005)

European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) Villafranca del Castillo, MADRID (SPAIN) Pedro Osuna VOSpec Kyoto May 2005 Theoretical Spectra in VOSpec  Real and Theoretical spectra could be unified in a common access protocol as they shares many properties  Main differences between both kind of spectra are the following:  Models have specific input parameters  Theoretical spectra are not normalized  ESA/VO proposed a solution for both problems. Connecting to the &format=METADATA, parsing the output VOTable and creating on-the-fly a java formulary inside their VOSpec application. This solution has been developed in a SVO/ESA-VO collaboration  The user will be able to rescale the theoretical spectra using real spectral data for the object to be studied

VOSpec will be modified to query that servers and use the results  Photometry inclusion in VOSpec Standard Johnson Photometry already available Plans to extend this access to more (any?) magnitudes  Try it, it works on real data !
