Classroom Guidelines and Procedures Mr. Smith, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Trent and Mr. Reed

How will I be graded? 60 % FORMATIVE 40 % SUMMATIVE

What are the rules in this classroom?

Rule #1—Good Leaders follow rules without being told. Be in your assigned seat and working on the assigned bell work on time.

Rule #2—Good Leaders are always prepared. Bring ALL books and materials to class and take them with you when you leave.

Rule #3-Good Leaders Put First Things First. Follow procedures and directions the first time they are given.

Rule #4—Good Leaders Always Think Win-Win. Always treat each person in this room with respect and dignity as you would like to be treated.

Rule #5 No food, drink, candy, or gum unless approved by the teacher **bottled water is acceptable

Rule #6 Follow all procedures and policies as outlined in the school and district handbooks.

What Happens if you Break a Rule? First offense-yellow card (Don’t do it again) Second offense-red card (See me after class) If you get a red card, you will be given a poem that you must memorize and present to the class. If you fail to do that, or receive another offense, you receive a behavior notice. The next offense will result in a discipline referral.

Severe Clause Any student who uses profanity, fights, damages school property (this includes the property of the teacher and other students), or is disrespectful (as defined by the teacher) will be sent to the office IMMEDIATELY.

Is it Bullying?

Classroom Procedures Explain, Rehearse, Reinforce!

Hallway Procedures All students will walk in a single file line facing forward. Please keep hands and feet off of objects/pictures on the walls of our halls. Lines will be on the right side of the hallway (NOT THE MIDDLE). Use walking feet with controlled hands and arms (arms and hands should be at your side). Yield to hallway occupants. Traveling voice- Level 0; Locker voice- Level 1

Entering the Room Please enter quietly and be in assigned seat. Take out your materials including agenda book. Have agenda book open on desk. Begin warm-up assignment.

Tardy to Class If you are late for class, wait at the door. You are to give a note to the teacher as to why you are late. If you do not have a note from a teacher, you will need a tardy slip from the office.

Tardy to Class cont’d After multiple tardies, parents or guardians will be contacted

I need to go to the bathroom Mrs. Scott 1. You are allowed 4 bathroom passes for restroom, water, locker, etc. each nine weeks. 2. To indicate you need to use a pass, raise your hand in a closed fist. 3. At teacher’s cue, you may leave the room taking one of the passes hanging on wall next to door.

When do I sharpen my pencil, Mrs. Scott? Your pencil may only be sharpened by a student with a leadership position. If you need to sharpen a pencil during class, please raise your pencil and wait for the cue from the teacher. It’s safe to have more than one pencil in case the lead breaks.

ELA Notebooks Each student will have three notebooks. One will be the “Writer’s Notebook” which will be kept in the room. Another will be the “Interactive Notebook” which you will be responsible for. At the beginning of class on Wednesdays andThursdays, an assigned person will pass out theWriter’s Notebook to students. After the warm-up, notebooks will be taken up and put in the correct place on the bookcase. On Fridays the home communications notebooks will be handed out.

Emergency Room Evacuation If, for any reason, the class needs to exit the room, (ex) a child gets sick, then a hand signal will be given. When you see my finger going around in a circle and then it points to the door, that is your cue to get up and go to your designated spot.

Emergency Evacuation of Room Cont. The designated spots are: –Mrs. Jonesto the library –Mrs. Scott to Mrs. Trent –Mrs. Trent to Mrs. Scott –Mr. Smith Mrs. England

Other Emergency Situations Fire Drill Tornado Drill Earthquake Drill Lock Down

How do I head my paper? Name (First, Last) Date Class (grade) Upper right hand corner

How do I head my papers Mrs. Scott? All papers should have the same heading before being turned in for a grade. Papers with no names will be put on the “No name board”. If they are not claimed within 3 days, they will become trash! – **Be sure and tell teacher you are claiming a paper

Cell Phones? You are welcome to have a cell phone at school. It may only be used at times approved by the teacher and must be turned off otherwise. It is best to keep it in your locker, but that is not required. When leaving the room to go to the bathroom, place your cell phone on Mrs. Scott’s desk. You may get the phone back when you enter the room.

Where Do You Keep That? Extra paper Pencils While You Were Out basket Extras box Crayons, coloring pencils, markers Hand sanitizer No Name papers

Leader In Me Student Leadership Roles ALL STUDENTS will have the opportunity to be in a student leadership role. You will need to fill out an application first and the positions will last an entire quarter.

Class Dismissal Do not start packing up prior to dismissal. If I am not finished teaching, DO NOT get up. Take all of your crap with you!

End of the Day Dismissal After afternoon announcements, car riders may be dismissed to go to lockers and then to the gym. Bus riders will need to bring all materials to their 6 th period class. There will be no locker break at the end of the day. You must return to the classroom and either sit in your seat or stand behind your desk until bus riders are called.

A quote from Stephen Covey: “We are the creative force of our life, and through our own decisions rather than our conditions, if we carefully learn to do certain things, we can accomplish those goals.”

Have an awesome year!” – Middle Grades Team “I truly believe in your potential and I know that you have the ability to succeed!
