Intro to Computers By David Becker

Space Needle For my website I did research on the Space Needle in Seattle. The following slides will tell you about the process of building it and the purpose as well.

Building The Space Needle was originally sketched to be a dominating central structure for the 1962 Seattle World Fair. Edward E. Carlson, then president of Western International Hotels, was the artist. He wanted to focus on the futuristic Seattle, specifically the 21st century.

Building 2 On the drawing board what started out as a Tethered balloon soon became what you see now when you visit the Seattle Center. But soon after leaving the drawing board the main concern became finding location and money.

Building 3 Just 13 months before the fair began, a 120 by 120 foot lot was sold for the purpose of the space needle. Construction, overseen by Howard S. Write Construction Company, progressed quickly.

Building 4 An underground foundation was built that took 467 cement trucks and one full day to create, and the Needle has its center of gravity just above ground.

Building 5 A lot of the attention that was put to the top went to the revolving restaurant and observation deck. They painted most of it astronaut white, once again, to represent the 21st century.

Building 6 The last addition, the elevators, was put in the day before the fair began. They finished just in time, and it stole the show.

My Needle The pictures below was a sad attempt by me to create the space needle on paint and a picture of the real one (try to guess which is mine).

Reference I got all of my information at I got all of my pictures at toskyline.htm (not including my “art work”) toskyline.htm This is a link to my site. I hope you visit It! ndex.html ndex.html

The end That was my power point. I hope you learned more about the Space Needle.
