Presentation transcript:

Frozen is an animated children's movie produced by Jennifer Lee and peter del velcha in They are responsible for movies such as wreck it ralph and the princess and the frog. The production company of the film is Disney. Disney are a multi billionaire company responsible for the majority of animated films such as Toy story and Mickey mouse. This movie has an audience of Children aged 6-12 but it is also considered a family movie because it can be enjoyed by parents and people over the age of 16. The film contains child like humour that kids will enjoy and also has songs that kids can sing along too. The movie would also mainly attract little girls due to the girly costumes. The main character Princess Elsa played by Idina Menzeliz, who features in the play wicked and rent, is a key factor to the success of the film because she attracts little girls due to the dress she wears and the hit song let it go she sings. The film also had a romance genre to it due to the relationships involved between Kristoff and Anna and Elsa and Hans. In between these relationships is Olaf played by Josh Gad who features in the wedding ringer and pixels. He brings the humour to the film by his jokes in the play. The play had a Budget of 150million. The play was thought to be an average played but after being released the film blew and made a revenue of $951.3million and had a box office value of $1.3billion.It was in the top ten grossing movies ever showing it had a wide spread demographically and psycographically.

In the promotion of of the film there were a lot of conventions from the animation. An example is from the poster of the film which had a lot of high key lighting. Also there is a romance shown of the two couple as they are next to each other but split by the goofy sidekick Olaf. Olaf has a smile on his face showing the laughter of the film. The trailer has a lot of singing attracting kids because it brings them enjoyment and they are able to sing along. In the trailer of the film we see a lot of codes such as singing, dancing and laughter. We also see I wide range of lights but all are high key lighting, most of the lighting is focused on the princess as she is wearing a bright sparkling dress which brings her attention. You also see the adventure side of the film as Anna sets out to find her sister and she comes across challenges which are key to an adventure film. There is also a lot of glimpse the key scenes. In the beginning the show the build up to the scenario which tells us the main plot of the movie.

In the trailer for frozen there are many conventions. At the very start of the film the first image shown is of the production company. This immediately promotes Disney to the viewers and people will know the company and their previous films which will interest people who might have seen a movie they liked by the company. After that film there is an establishing shot of the princess and her over seeing the land from her castle. There is a voice over by a man with a mysterious voice who tells the drama that is happening at the moment. The voice over introduces the scene by saying the kingdom there in and the atmosphere he then changes his tone of voice because of the disruption. The disruption is when Princess Elsa reveals her sorcery to the people of her town. She then cannot control her power which leads to her covering the land in ice. Midway in the trailer a tag line appears saying ‘music’ which is then followed by the featured song like let it go but only a glimpse is shown. It then mention the previous films that the production company have produced which were Lion King and tangled. They put this in there because these were there previous most famous production. There are many montages of the best bits including the introduction of Olaf the goofy sidekick and there journey to find Elsa. They also show the challenges she comes across like the blizzards and storms.

On the release poster of frozen there are multiple conventions. One convention shown is the previous directed film. At the top it mentions that they previously directed wreck it ralph and tangled. This is to promote what the have previously produced so that the audience know who they are. The production company logo is placed on top of the film title in a small font. They always place this where it can be seen because the company is a worldwide company known by people all around the world. The release date is at the bottom it only says thanksgiving as that is a famous date that all Americans will know but this might mean that people in other countries wont exactly know when that is. There is also the screening formats placed at the bottom to promote the different ways to view the movie like in 3d. This attracts people looking to have an experience while watching the movie and what to have a good time while watching.

In the poster of Frozen the Females are represented as being cheeky, friendly girls. What gives you this impression is the smiles on their faces. You can only see their faces which represents them as young beautiful women. Also they look like nice approachable girls. A general representation of them would be that they have girly characters and they are cheerful people. This is how people would see little girls to be like so the image relates to what a normal little girl would look like and how they act. The sidekick snowman is represented as a goofy character that is fun and smiley, kids like these sort of characters because there humour is easy to understand. The boy on the left is made to look passionate about the girl next to him because all his focus is on her. The position of the characters represent them as couples. This brings out the romantic side of the film that everyone likes because it brings the viewer enjoyment and it brings a cheeky side.

In the trailer of frozen there are also more representations of the characters. Princess Anna is represented as a caring and respective character. This is because kids that will watch this movie would be expect a princess to be nice friendly polite people that care about other and Anna is shown to be a caring person. Also the backgrounds shown represent the peaceful side because the colours are calm colours like the blue of the snow. They do this to bring out the happy nice side of the movie which brings enjoyment. The scene is also set in a rich, wealthy and happy environment. The working class people are all happy and enjoy themselves, the have nice clothes. The working class are all passive but the represent the scene because the are in a rich environment and you can tell this because everyone is white and all have nice clothing. The different socio economic groups are shown as well at times you see some peasants the also represent the setting because the are also all white and they dress nicely. They are shown getting on with their lives happily and in peace. The sidekick snowman is represent as a goofy, silly character that has a kind side to him which is shown in the end when he melts for Anna. The audience while watching all of these representations wold genrally like the movie. They would like it because the lifestyles that people live in real world is different to the movie. This means that people would enjoy watching it because they would like to feel involved with the laughter and happiness going on in the movie. Kids would feel as if the characters are their friends due to the friendly characteristics they have and they enjoy the humour and jokes from the movie. The Ice man is represented as a brave character who steps up and helps Anna on her journey. He is given masculine traits to represent him as the typical male that everyone expects to see. His masculine side is shown by him doing what you wouldn't expect a female to do, this involves him doing stuff like fighting of wolves and helping her go through a storm. His clothes represent him as a working class person with a cheerful attitude. But in a scene Anna is shown fighting of wolves as well which represent her as a adventurous and brave female. In the trailer the clothing also represent the characters. The people who are royalty are all white the females are all pretty and they are shown to be rich and powerful. Anna is represented as a young beautiful lady who has a brave attitude. She is also has a strong bond with her sister which is easy to tell because the main plot of the movie is her going to save her sister, she also puts herself in danger all for her sister.

Overall I think Disney had a successful promotion campaign for Frozen. The company spent a lot on promotion and promoted through Apps and merchandise sold at large retailing store like Argos and Tesco. Frozen promoted their campaign on social media such as face book and twitter, this attracted several people and they recorded a total of over 25 million likes. The frozen fan base was spread all over the world by social media people would spread the film trailers meaning several people would come across this movie and it would interest people to see it. In the error we live in today parents are not buying books for there kids to read but are using digital apps. Several kids would use gadgets like iPad or iPhone. Through this information Frozen produced story book apps for kids to read also they had karaoke and games for kids to download. Frozen games were the number 1 selling app produced by Disney beating other famous games like wreck it ralph. Disney produced a large amount of merchandise which was sold worldwide. Large retailers like Tesco and ASDA promoted frozen toys for kids. At the time of the frozen release there was a demand of frozen merchandise like Elsa dresses. Disney also promoted frozen by putting the frozen image on everyday items such as furniture. Mugs and lamps. Overall they were very successful in marketing and managed to spread their campaign globally and You know that they were successful because of the revenue they made
