Vocabulary Self- Awareness Susan Lickteig Mathematics Objectives:  Students will be able to write additional vocab words from the lesson.  Students will be able to write examples and definitions of the vocab words.  Students will be able to calculate mean, median, mode, and range.  Students will be able to draw box and whisker plots, frequency tables, stem and leaf plots.

Literacy Focus  Before Reading  Can also be used after reading to gauge understanding  Vocabulary

Step by Step a) teacher identifies vocabulary words for the students to write in their charts b) Students rate their understanding of the words before lesson using“+” for comfortable, “√” for comfortable with the definition or example but not both, “-” for not sure c) Teacher begins lesson and students fill in the chart with more words, definitions, and examples d) After lesson, students assess their understanding again and change symbols as needed
