HAIKU Example Butterflies are cool in the big, huge, green forest. They fly up so high!

What is Haiku??? Haiku is a poetic form and a type of poetry from the Japanese culture. Haiku combines form, content, and language in a meaningful, yet compact form.

Haiku… write about everyday things. Many themes include nature, feelings, or experiences. Usually they use simple words and grammar. The most common form for Haiku is three short lines. The first line usually contains five (5) syllables, the second line seven (7) syllables, and the third line contains five (5) syllables.

Remember, Haiku…. Haiku doesn't rhyme. A Haiku must "paint" a mental image in the reader's mind. This is the challenge of Haiku - to put the poem's meaning and imagination in the reader's mind in ONLY 17 syllables over just three (3) lines of poetry

HOW TO WRITE HAIKU? STEP 1. BRAINSTORM YOUR IDEAS - Pick a topic of interest. - Brainstorm words that associate with this topic. - Make a good list so that this will provide you with a word bank for your haiku. - Now that you have your word bank, lets start your haiku. - The haiku consists of 3 lines. - The first line contains 5 syllables. - The second line consists of 7 syllables. - The third line consists of 5 syllables. - YOU MUST FOLLOW THIS FORMAT! STEP 2. FORMAT YOUR HAIKU.
