 Square roots make perfect squares.  For example 16 would be a perfect square as illustrated below: There are 16 squares, to make it into a perfect square it would have to be 4 by 4, 4 2 would be 16: The square root of 16 would be 4

 The inverse operation of squaring a number is finding the square root.  The square root is a number that when multiplied by itself is equal to the original number.  5 2 = 25 and (-5) 2 = 25  So  25 = 5 or -5
