Map Coordinates Review. Equator A line that divides the planet into northern and southern hemispheres Has a measure of 0 degrees of Latitude.
 Distance measure in degrees- from 0 o to 90 o North or South of the equator  Equator- primary reference point  Lines are called parallels- form complete.
Using Latitude and Longitude.  Relative location: describing the location of a place in relation to another place.  Absolute location: exact location.

“ The earth is described as a living planet, what do you think is meant by this? Explain your answer.”

 Grades are updated  Use the Wikispace: ss200.wikispaces.com

 Solar storm hits earth - brilliant night skies, Northern Lights head south - could cause issues on earth  Arrests made in attack on Malala - teen girl shot for speaking for rights of girls to receive an education - spoke against Taliban

“ The earth is described as a living planet, what do you think is meant by this? Explain your answer.”

 Latitude Lines (Parallels) - divides into two hemispheres at the equator - North And South; lines run from 0-90 degrees  Special Latitudinal Lines - At 23.5 degrees North – Tropic of Cancer - At 23.5 degrees South – Tropic of Capricorn  Degrees - can be divided into “minutes” - there are “60 Minutes” in one degree

 Longitude Lines (Meridians) - divide the earth into East and West hemispheres at the Prime Meridian (0 degrees) - Markings go from 0 to 180 degrees in both directions  Intersection of Latitude and Longitude lines equals an absolute location

1. Identify 3 “tools” geographers use to study new regions? 2. List two themes of geography and the questions associated with those themes. 3. How would you use the themes of geography to study regions unfamiliar to you? Explain your answer.
