Giza  Giza is where the three most famous pyramids are located.  The great pyramid of Khufu also known as the great pyramid of Giza was the biggest pyramid in Egypt.  2.3 million blocks were cut, transported and assembled.  Pyramids took approximately 23 years to build.  Two of the people who built the great pyramid of Giza were called nut and debar.

Why are pyramids different to our homes? PyramidsHomes  They were about ten times bigger than our homes.  Pyramids were built for the pharaoh to go to the afterlife in.  Pyramids were a lot bigger than our homes because all the pharaoh’s belongings would have to go in it.  Homes took about two years to build and pyramids took twenty three years to build.  The temperature of homes varied but inside a pyramid was always about 20 degrees.

Did you know?  All the pyramids were built on the west bank of the River Nile as this was the site of the setting sun.  There are approximately 140 pyramids in Egypt.  They were originally covered in smooth white limestone.  Pyramids are now shorter than they were because the limestone has been stolen.

The last great Pyramid builder was Pepys II who ruled for 94 years after coming to power at a very young age.
