Electromagnetic Induction and Faraday’s Law.

Induced Current

Induced current (voltage) is produced by a changing of magnetic field.

Induced voltage is proportional to the rate of change of the magnetic flux, F B

Units of Magnetic Flux 1 weber (1 Wb) = 1 T m 2

Faraday’s Law of Induction Faradey showed that if the number of magnetic field lines (magnetic flux) passing through a loop of wire changed for any reason, a current was produced in this loop.

Lenz’s Law An induced current always a magnetic field opposes the original change in magnetic flux.

Different Examples

What’s it good for, Mr. Faradey?

Electric Generators

Transformers

1.If a charged particle travels in a straight line, can you say that there is no magnetic field in that region of space? Explain. 2.A proton and and electron have the same velocity. What happens if they enter a bending magnet with a magnetic field perpendicular to their velocity?
