How to Create a PowerPoint for an Oral Research Presentation
Presentation transcript:

How to create an oral research presentation English 12CP Senior Anthology

Purpose of an oral presentation To communicate the importance of your topic. Clearly state your findings and what these findings mean Prompt others to take interest in your topic and to ask questions

Technical aspects of presentation Use simple backgrounds that are easy to see for your audience Always use the same background throughout Try not to use backgrounds that are distracting and difficult to read the words Use text color that contrasts with the background Use color for emphasis Keep colors simple; less is more Use colors sparingly Pictures are a great way to communicate your point

Technical aspects of presentation Avoid text heavy slides. This means that your slide should not be filled with words. Avoid full paragraphs. Create one slide for each main point: That makes it easier for your audience to follow, it keeps the presentation focused, and the audience will listen to you instead of reading ahead.

Components (At least 8 slides) Introduction Background Research Questions Findings/ Data Summarize Creative Piece and describe your creative process. What did you want to convey in this piece about your theme? Fine Art, Show picture, analyze Discussion/ Conclusions

Interactive component (optional) You can also add an interactive component. For example, if your subject is on psychological health, you can include a short psychological quiz. If your topic is on gender representation in the media, you can show a short clip that shows the inequalities in gender representation

Title Slide Your title slide should include your name, your Senior Anthology Title, and the school name Example: Gender Representation: The Media and its Influence Argie Kantilierakis North Plainfield High School

Significance of data What does all this evidence mean? What conclusions were you able to draw about your topic?

Creative Piece Provide a short excerpt of your creative work Explain what it was you wanted to convey through your work. Describe your creative process.

Fine art Provide a picture. Explain in your own words how it shows your theme and what it communicates about your theme specifically.
