ETHOS Ethos = speaker’s credibility A credible speaker is: Respectable (trustworthy, moral, of good character) Relatable to the audience An authority on his or her topic

LOGOS Logos = logical argument A logical argument: Is based on facts and statistics Makes sense
LOGOS (CONT’D) Claim: Students should be allowed to chew gum in class. What are facts you could use to convince an audience to believe the above claim?
PATHOS Pathos = emotional connection Language choice can add to an argument. Narratives can help an audience connect emotionally to an argument.
