Walter Sondheim 6/9/ Composite fabrication: We have investigated many vendors to fabricate composite components for the VTX assembly such as aerospace companies. Composite material is in big demand, most material manufacturers require a minimum order. Composite material needs to be kept frozen to extend its shelf life. Investigated working with another National Laboratory that has developed the technical expertise to fabricate precision composite structures for unique detector applications. Conclusion; develop a working relationship with the Composite shop at LBNL run by Eric Anderssen. –Potential costs savings, closer working relationship. –Developed composite support structure for ATLAS pixel detector.
