Energy The ability to cause a change.
Energy is defined as the ability to do work or cause change Work is done when a force causes an object to move in the direction of that force – Examples:
Forms of Energy. Ability to do work or cause change Produces Warmth Produces Light Produces Sound Produces Movement Produces Growth Powers Technology.

Energy.
What is energy?.  Energy- the ability to do work  When one object does work on another object, energy is transferred from the first object to the second.
Forms of Energy. Conservation of Energy Energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only be changed from one form to another. The above statement is.
Unit 2 Energy. Energy Transformations Law of Conservation of Energy Energy cannot be created or destroyed only transformed to another type of Energy.
All energy is either POTENTIAL or KINETIC. Potential energy is stored energy, either by an object’s position (gravity) or in chemical bonds. Kinetic energy.

WORK, POWER AND ENERGY. WORK Work is done ONLY when a force moves an object Work is a force acting over a distance If an object does NOT move when a force.
Work and Energy. What is WORK? Work is equal to the amount of force it takes for an object to move a distance. Formula: Work = Force X Distance W = F.
Forms of Energy. Law of Conservation of Energy never Energy is never created or destroyed, it only changes form!

Work, Energy, & Power. Work Work (in science) is calculated by multiplying the force by the distance through which the force is applied. W (Joule) = F.

Review for test on Friday !

Force A push or a pull

Energy The ability to cause change

Work When a force moves an object over a distance An object MUST BE MOVED Work = force x distance I push a book 3 m across the floor. I use 4 N of force. How much work was done?

The Law of Conservation of Energy Energy cannot be created or destroyed, but changes form Chemical energy – stored in plants Light energy from the sun Sound energy – from vibrations Electrical energy – moving particles Nuclear energy – energy stored in nucleus of an atom Mechanical energy – energy of motion doing work Heat energy – thermal energy

The 3 laws of motion Developed by Isaac Newton

Measurement Spring scale is used to measure force Force is measured in Newtons Work is measured in Joules

Inclined Plane Simple tool – ramp Makes force less, but distance longer

Tropisms Plant’s response to light – Phototropism Plant’s response to gravity – Geotropism/gravitropism Plant’s response to touch - Thigmotropism

Turgor Pressure Water pressure inside plant’s cells Low – plant wilts High – plant stands tall
