Comparing Allen, TX to Quebec, Canada
Bonjour! My name is Aidan and I am Maddie’s cousin. She came to visit me from Texas and I thought I would show her around Quebec City, which is my community in Canada. We have many things in common, but we have many things that are very different. Did you know that in Canada every child must learn french? (It’s the law). In fact, at my school I was only taught in french until I was in the 4th grade, then I started to learn in french and english. I am now in the seventh grade and can speak two languages completely! I know there is something else that is very different in Quebec than in Allen, Texas………… can you guess from the clues in our picture?
SNOW!!!!!!!!!
And more snow!!!!
Here is a picture of my cousins Maddie, Ellie and my Uncle Neil as they headed off to go sledding……. We love our snow in Canada!
Since we get so much snow in Quebec we have many snow days during the school year. Here is a picture of Ellie and Maddie at our school playground.
In our community our favorite recreational activity is hockey. Everyone plays hockey, Mom, Dad, brother, and sister. Here is a picture of my team practicing in the winter. The other picture is of us ice-fishing. What kind of sports do you play outside?
Look at this amazing building! This is a picture I took of our city hall. This is a very old building as our town is much older than yours. We elect a mayor just like your community. Our Mayor is named Piere Marabell.
Our money looks very different from yours. Ours bills are colored differently so we can tell them apart. We also have turned our $1.00 into a coin called a Looney. (It was a named a Looney after Canadian Loons…which is a type of bird) We also have $2.00 coins called Tooney.
We have many different options when it comes to transportation in our community. We have city buses, cars and…….
Subways!!!!! I love riding the subways on the weekends because they are faster than the bus.
I hope you can come and visit us some day!
