The Functions of theExcretory SystemThe Functions of theExcretory System By: Jennifer Wallace

The excretory system is the part that contains the skin, lungs, kidneys and other associated organs Kidneys lungs skin Bladder

The functions of the Excretory System The excretory system works by four main body parts: Skin Lungs Kidney -The Skin -The Lungs -The Kidney -The bladder Bladder

These three are also parts of the excretory system Sphincter: is a circular muscle that constricts a passage or closes a natural orifice. When relaxed, a sphincter allows materials to pass through the opening. When contracted, it closes the opening. Urethra: The tube or duct that carries urine from the bladder and out through the penis and vagina. Ureter carries it from each kidney to the bladder.

The Excretory System If you didn’t have an excretory system chances are your body will balloon up and at one point suddenly burst. This is because an excretory system is used to dispose of wastes from your body. Also you wouldn’t be able to go to the bathroom because the excretory system also uses the bladder.

Skin Your skin is used as a type of barrier to protection to your body against infection and injury. The skin shields the inner organs from damage that the sun's UV rays and water could infect or injure. Through the skin there as special glands that can remove wastes from the body like water, oils, or salt. When you sweat is it actually good for your body because it helps remove toxic wastes from your body, which is apart of the Excretory System.

Lungs The lungs are used to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide with the environment. The lungs excrete carbon dioxide through inhaling and exhaling. They also deoxygenate the blood and send oxygen to the brain.

Kidneys The kidneys can be cut into two sections that can be seen. The inner section is called the renal medulla and the outer section is called the renal cortex. Renal cortex is the main function of the kidneys. When the blood enters the arteriole it impurities and filters out. It can be explained simply, but the actual process is very complicated. It involves two processes: Filtration and Reabsorbtion

Bladder The bladder is one of the biggest parts of the excretory system. If you didn’t have a bladder the chances of you ballooning up and bursting are very high. You wouldn’t be able to dispose of the wastes in your body. The bladder is the main part of the excretory system.
