Presentation transcript:

AP Language September I can combine sentences to create variety and complexity. I can demonstrate comprehension of increasingly challenging texts by answering literal, interpretive, and evaluative questions. I can analyze a writer’s rhetoric in developing his or her purpose. I can use narrative techniques to develop my own narrative.

Misplaced Modifiers A modifying word, phrase, or clause that seems to modify the wrong word or word group in a sentence is a misplaced modifier. Undaunted, the storm did not prevent the crew from setting sail as planned. (Who or what is “undaunted”? According to the sentence, the storm is.) Draw pictures of the following sentences, then write them correctly. –Uncle Carmine saw a deer bounding across a meadow on his way to work. –They were delighted to see a field of daffodils climbing up the hill.

Sentence Combining We visited Lake Moraine. We heard wild geese. We saw beavers building dams. We sat by the tent one evening. It was in the summer. We saw a snowshoe hare creep from the pine trees. It ate lettuce from our hands. Lake Moraine is a wonderful place. It is peaceful place. It is threatened by acid rains. The acid rains are destroying the brook trout.
