Random ideas for discussion

Logging/storage We need to decide on the list of required variables to log and analyze for each fill For each variable, we need to agree on a logging logic (here is a suggestion): – BBQ  continuous when beam in – FBCT  continuous when beam in – ADT  depends if continuous (needs postprocessing logic to downsample after each fill) or triggered (we keep everything) – Beam spectrum  ok with 0.1 Hz – BSRT  continuous when beam in – Bunch length  to be discussed – Heat load  to be discussed – Stable phase  to be discussed Should estimate the total amount of disk space for 1 year Need to discuss with BE/CO-DM to see the best strategy If storage on our own machines, need a common place where anyone from the team can retrieve the data easily (a lot of issues last year were coming from the fact that a lot of data would be lost after 7 days, and that there was no automatic safe way to log the BBQ, bunch length and FBCT data).

Viewers Which observables do we want plotted?  In case of beam not unstable (available online): – BSRT evolution as a function of time (bunch by bunch) – Losses as a function of time (FBCT, bunch by bunch) – Transverse beam spectrum (BBQ) as a function of time (hump buster, online), please log at least 8192 consecutive turns of raw data!!!!! – Tune footprint (on selected subset of bunches)  In case of instability (on demand, after postprocessing): – Bunch by bunch transverse amplitude evolution as a function of time (2D contour plot, ADT) – Bunch by bunch transverse growth rate evolution as a function of time (2D contour plot, ADT) – Bunch by bunch tunes evolution as a function of time (2D contour plot, ADT)  azimuthal mode – Beam spectrum evolution for selected bunch as a function of time (2D contour plot, ADT)  azimuthal mode – Superposition of traces of selected bunches (Headtail monitor)  radial mode – Frequency spectrum of the headtail monitor  radial mode? – Movie of bunch by bunch motion during instability + 2D FFT (ADT)  coupled bunch motion Problem of available libraries/codes available in the CCC consoles (possibility of remote desktop to a dedicated machine/cluster with everything installed?) Problem of available memory and CPU on consoles Getting data real-time or from logging (some minutes of delay)?  need to decouple the acquisition from the viewer to avoid crashes. Direct pipe?

Organization? How automatic can the acquisition be ? – Do we need ‘shifts’ to Follow daily operation? Retrieve data from the MDB and make sure that all correct data is stored in a common location? If yes, do we do shifts per topic or per week? If per week, need: – efficient viewers – efficient scripts to run for each fills – agreed table of variables or parameters to produce for each fill – People for shifts with a minimum of knowledge to run the scripts and produce the tables, give first assessment and report to ICE meeting – If operational issues come up, possibility to call ad-hoc meeting very fast with chosen colleagues to take decisions on what to do next, and who will report what outside of the section

Acquisition Need for accurate chromaticity measurement during the fill Do we need faster FBCT logging (as in PM)? Is acquisition of ADT (or HT monitor) every 10 turns enough (question of Alexey)? Need for absolute emittance Which best tradeoff for the HT monitor? Is 100 microns resolution for HT monitor ok?
