What is coaching? Coaching is a process which enables people to find and act on solutions which are most congruent and appropriate for them personally. Achieved through dialogue Encourages clarity and new perspectives Conversations that include questioning and listening techniques Is confidential

Mentoring The mentor is someone who ‘has been there, done that and bought the T-shirt’. A mentor is expected to know the answers, the short cuts and the tricks of the trade. Structure support through significant transitions

Principles Activity Learners to work in teams Use 60 seconds to collect principles of coaching and mentoring cards placed around the room bring back to your teams and put them in order of preference. Give feedback once they have collected on why they have chosen the order of importance.

Spectacles Activity Divide into teams to describe benefits of coaching to: a. the organisation b. the coach and c. the client. Write on mini whiteboard. Turn over whiteboard when giving feedback.
