Statistics Germany remains one of Europe’s largest growers/exporters of grain. Despite what many may think, nearly half of Germany is comprised of farmland.
Statistics (cont.) Germany produces 92 thousand metric tons of cereal grains, placing it in the top 30 countries for cereal production. Germany also uses kg/ha of fertilizer annually, which creates more nutrient rich crop yields, as opposed to the U.S kg/ha.
International involvement The BMELV currently works on enforcing the right of food for people across the globe. By limiting investments, Germany is helping to secure human rights, including those to food and water.
International Involvement (cont.) Germany has contributed over 8.3 million Euros to support food security in the country of Afghanistan. On top of this, German officials have agreed to work with Afghan authorities to support livestock development.
National Involvement In order to help aid the preservation of food, German scientists have created equipment that acts as a moisture control.
National involvement (cont.) Germany seeks to implement a project that will help small farmers to enter into business partnerships with agricultural enterprises in Kenya. German funding will also be aimed at a project improving smallholder systems that integrate food and bioenergy production.
