Requirements to WSO Ground Segment Lavochkin Association & ROSCOSMOS 30/06/2006

UV mission structure SS GSm SC + SIGSt + MOC + SOC

Requirements to GSm (to SS) 1.Requirements from SI 2.Requirements from SC Requirements from SI 1.Production of science data per day – xxxx MB 2.Max gap between data production and download 3.Modes of observation implementation Requirements from SC 1.HK data production per day – xxxx Kbytes 2.Frequency and duration of uplink and downlink sessions

To meet the requirements it is necessary: 1.To determine bit rate for downlink (P) 2.To determine duration of telemetry downlink per day (T) V = P x T P depends on: SC-E distance, SC-TRS power, SC-antennas,... T depends on: SC zones of vsb, available GSts,.. 12 hrs x 4Mbit/s = 20 GBytes

WSO: Ground station layer  High data rate downlink 1.5 Mbps (4 Mbps)  15 m antenna in X-band (12 m)  Ground stations under consideration  Argentina (Falda del Carmen)  P.R. China (Miyun)  Russia (Moscow TBC)  South Africa (Sat. Appl. Centre, CSIR)  Spain (Villafranca, ESA).

WSO: Control center layer  Control centers  Co-located with ground stations  Execute command timelines (uplink support)  Level 1 processing of telemetry (downlink support)  Mission Operation Center (MOC)  Responsible for mission safety and security  Mission planning facility  Mission analysis facility  Flight dynamics facility  On-board software maintenance  Mission data archive  Control centre capabilities.

WSO: Ground Segment

WSO: Operations concept  Science operations on spacecraft orbiting in L2  All observations are pre-planned. Science plan, driven by the TAC, as:  long term – 6-12 months cycle  medium – 28 days cycle  short term – 7 days revision  Timeline interruption: 6 hours upon SOC request  SOC prepares the long term plan Period of SC–Earth Communication per day – hrs

Main and backup MOCs Main MOC will be under responsibility of SC- producer Backup MOC functionality is equal to functionality of main MOC Main and backup MOCs have equal access to SC control data

MOC implementation Get SS requirements Get SC initial data Determination of types and formats of files circulating between MOC and SC, GSt, SOC Development of MOC technical design Production of MOC MOC testing with real SC

Cooperation in Ground Segment implementation (Russian interests) Operation of Ground Stations with different locations First time Russian SC can be supported by international Ground stations network Operation of main and back up MOCs from different countries. Transition of control Support in mission operation standards and relevant software development
