WHAT IS WORK LIFE BALANCE? The relationship between the amount of time and effort that someone gives to work and the amount that they give to other aspects of life, such as their family.

WORK LIFE BALANCE Work-life balance does not mean slicing out equal number of hours for each of your work and personal activities which is highly unlikely in the real world. Also an individual’s work- life balance will vary with time. The right balance for you when you are single will be different when you marry and it changes again when you are blessed with children, and again when you are nearing retirement. In fact achievement and enjoyment are the two sides of an acceptable definition of work- life balance. A good working definition of work- life balance is “meaningful daily achievement and enjoyment in each of my four life quadrants: work, family, friends and self.” At work you can create your own best work –life balance by making you not sure only achieve, but also reflect the joy of the job, and the joy of life, everyday. If nobody pats you on the back today, pat yourself.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY To study the Work-Life balance of employees working in IT companies and find out the reasons for work-life imbalance and put forward the recommendations to overcome it.

There are various reasons for this imbalance and conflicts in the life of an employee. From individual career ambitions to pressure to cope up with the family or work, the reasons can be situated and individual specific. The speed of advancement of information technology, the increasing competition in the talent supply market has led to a “performance – driven “culture creating pressure and expectations to performance more and better every time. Also, many a times, many people find it difficult to say “no” to others especially their superiors. They usually end up over burdening themselves with work. The increasing responsibilities on the personal front with age can also create stress on personal and professional fronts. REASONS FOR IMBALANCE IN WORK-LIFE

METHODOLOGY Surveyed 31 people from the IT companies—  25 males  6 females Based on a questionairre containing 36 questions.

FINDINGS On the basis of survey, it is clearly relevant that men are more concerned about their performance in an organization and are more self centered. On the other hand, women are more concerned on the organizations performance as a whole and they are team oriented irrespective of males who are self oriented.

FINDINGS Women devote rest of their spare time to their family. Where as, it is observed from the study that men devote more of their spare time mostly to their friends and colleagues. From the study it is also relevant that men are more adaptive to the organizational culture, values and hierarchy than women.

PROBLEMS FACE DURING SURVEY Time factor. Some of the employees were not co-operative. Some were not ready to share informations.

WAY TO MAINTAIN TIP NO 10--SET GOALS,PLAN AND PRIORITISE. TIP NO 9 --HAVE STRUCTURE IN PLACE. TIP NO 8 --PRACTICE GOOD TIME MANAGEMENT. TIP NO 7 --UNDERTAKE TRAINING IN TECHNIQUES REQUIRED. TIP NO 6 –TAKE HOLIDAYS AND LONG WEEKENDS

WAY TO MAINTAIN TIP NO 5 –REWARD YOURSELF. TIP NO 4 –STAY HEALTHY. TIP NO 3 –BE POSSITIVE,PASSIONATE & ENTHUTIASTIC. TIP NO 2 –LOVE YOUR JOB. TIP NO 1 –LOVE YOUR LIFE.

SOLUTION FOR IMPROVING WORK-LIFE BALANCE: Time management is one of the best solutions which can help to reduce between the personal and the work-life of the employees. Taking some time out for hobbies and leisure activities, spending time with loved ones can help to beat the stress. Learn to say “NO” if required. Sharing the responsibilities will help and don’t commit for something practically impossible. Utilizing the flexible hour’s option of the organization to get some free time.

RECOMMENDATION The problems that the employees faces are more or less common which can be solved within an organization by developing even better communication network. Whereas in case of personal life balance can be maintained by time management and better understanding.

CONCLUSION If one has managed to allocate the required time for every aspect of life and not to reflect the problems in one part of life to another it means that he has been able to achieve work-family balance. Life as a whole is composed of many other aspects along with work. Those who have achieved to balance among these aspects are sure to balance life with work.
