GALE Databases General Overview of Your Professional Development Module

Purpose & Goals 0 The purpose of this module is to showcase different types of databases available to you and your students provided through GALE Cengage Learning. 0 By the end of the module, you will be able to: *Differentiate between three different GALE databases and describe how you would use them with a student *Possess an awareness and knowledge of Literacy and Technology Standards *Connect Arkansas Frameworks Standards to an example lesson plan in conjunction with utilizing GALE databases

Objectives 0 Introduce teachers to helpful tutorials that provide overviews to different GALE databases. 0 Review different GALE databases independently to evaluate basic features of each. 0 Provide guided practice to teachers working in different GALE databases. 0 Provide example of how GALE databases can be used in instruction.

Helpful Hints and Tips 0 You will want to have a notebook and writing utensil available so that you can take notes on different details from each of the databases you review today. 0 Proceed through the links on the Wiki in the order listed for the most successful navigation through this PD module. 0 You should always have another window open in your browser so that you may view the tutorial and have the database you are learning about up at the same time. This will allow you to practice what the tutorial is discussing in the actual database as the tutorial takes place. – THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!
