Discovery and Name No one knows who exactly discovered mars, so we will never know when mars was discovered. Mars’s name is originally comes from the Roman God of War, because its reddish color reminded people of blood.

Measurements Order from the Sun Mars is the 4 th planet from sun. Distance from the Sun million mi. Diameter4,212mi. Mass6.4169x10^23 Temperature -81 degrees Fahrenheit Day Length Earth days Year Length687 Earth days

Composition and Appearance Mars is covered with a fine like dust. Under the layer of dust is a crust of volcanic rock. Mars has an appearance of red because it is covered with reddish dust. Mars has a carbon dioxide level of 95% a nitrogen level of 3% and a 1.6% oxygen and water vapor.

Moons –M–Mars has to small moons named Phobos and Deimos.

Exploration Many space crafts visited Mars. Mariner three was launched on Nov.5,1964.Mariner three was the first space craft to visit Mars. It also was one of the two identical deep-space probes built by Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Mariner three was launch from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Mariner three was unable to get power from the sun, so the probe soon died when it’s batteries ran out. Now it is in space orbit.

Unique Fact Mars may used to have life, but there is no proof of it. This planet is very mysterious, because there are many unique information about Mars. Mars’s surface looks like it has riverbanks on it. Scientists are finding out ways to bring life on it.
