Welcome to GCSE Geography at Wildern

What will I study? GCSE Geography is based on 4 main themes: Rivers & Coasts Natural hazards Economic development Population and settlement

So what’s it all about? Economic Development – including: What is development and how do we measure it? What determines where economic activities locate? Contrasting levels of economic development - Trade, aid and TNC’s (Trans-national Corporations) The impacts of TNC’s in countries with different levels of development

Population and settlement Changing city and town centres – how is land use changing in our cities? Population change – How do people in LEDC’s and MEDC’s meet the challenges of population change? Migration – why people move from the countryside to the cities and what are the impacts of this?

How will I be assessed? Coursework – worth 25% of your final grade. This will be based on coastal fieldwork. Paper 1 – a decision making exercise. Resources may include OS maps, newspaper articles and photographs. Worth 25% of your final mark. Paper 2 – Worth 50% of your final mark. This exam tests your geographical knowledge.

Top tips for success Keep your work organised – it will help you later when you come to revise. Complete all tasks set – if you miss lessons make sure you catch up. Put 100% effort into your work. Complete all homework and hand in on time. VLE!!! All support resources and class materials will be there
