Focus Group “The Nature of Nurturing” Prepared and presented by Kristine Gose Fresno City College Simms Mann Institute for Education and Community Development

Thoughts, impressions, feelings How “are you” since our last session? What did you see in your videos? What did you like? Did you see any stressors in yourself? Your toddler? What would you like to see more of in your video?

Regulation and Dys-regulation What is it? What causes it? Both?

What is dys-regulating to me? Identify which ideas are dys-regulating to you about your upbringing? When you think of these things – what do you do to regulate yourself? What feels good to you when you become dys-regulated by these ideas?

Your Little One What dys-regulates your little one? What is regulating to her/him? What do you do to help you Little One get to regulation? Is this easy? Difficult? Requires a lot of energy? At times – is it your baby that dys-regulates you? How do you stay regulated AND support your baby in regulating?

Nurturing Behaviors / Regulation / Joy! Relationship of nurturing and regulation Challenges to nurturing – and regulation Challenges to joy

“Nurturing” / Co-regulation Requires both of you – two people Emotional function – reflection of “affect” Human connection – separate from “skills” or what a baby “knows” Opening and closing circles of communication Intentionally understanding your OWN dys-regulation patterns

Scheduling new videos!
