Literacy Rate- The percentage of the population over age 15 that can read and write. 6. Is the literacy rate higher in the United Kingdom or in Saudi Arabia? 7. What relationship do you think exists between the literacy rate & whether a country is developed or developing?

Gross Domestic Product (GDP)- The total value of all goods & services produced in a country in a year. 10. What percentage of the GDP did Health Care account for in 2000? 11. Which category accounted for 6.9% of the GDP?

Per Capita Income-The average income a person makes within a specific country – GDP divided by population

12. Which areas in the world appear to be the wealthiest? 13. Are the countries in the low income level developed or developing?

Population Density-The number of people living per unit in an area. We usually use square miles. 14. Which areas of the country are most densely populated? 15. Why do you think people choose to live in those areas?

If a country is developing (like Nigeria) the pyramid will look like a pyramid. Notice there aren’t very many old people. Poor medical care, lack of access to technology, etc. Notice there are lots of babies being born. Little access to birth control, high infant mortality rate, large families are useful for farming, etc.

If a country is developed (like the USA), the pyramid will look kind of like a soda bottle. Notice the decent amount of old people. Notice we can control our birthrate.
