Objectives  Contribution to the determination of 210 Pb using Eichrom Resin in mineral waters  Determination of the chemical recovery by AAS

Preparation of water samples  1 litre of water acidified by HNO 3 to pH < 2  add 20 mg of Fe carrier and 7 mg of Pb carrier  add NH 4 OH to precipitate Fe as Fe(OH) 3

Separation scheme Centrifuge, Sample of water acidified to pH < 2 LSC plastic vial 6M HCl Pb Resin LSC counting discard Iron hydroxide precipitation 2M HCl 6M HNO 3 Evaporation Chemical recovery AAS precipitate supernatant

Total dissolved solids in water samples

210 Pb in water samples Results

Determination of chemical recovery by AAS Results

Summary  Pb. Resin is suitable for the separation of 210 Pb in natural mineral waters  The method is more efficient and cost-effective than traditional procedures  AAS determination of chemical yields leads to greater accuracy
