Totalitarianism (Stalin) By:Jasmine Barclay And William Krasowsky Class:912

What is Totalitarianism?  One leader with all the power.  Diminishes the line between government and society.  Tries to control every aspect of daily life for citizens. Such as housing, income, and other private affairs.

This cartoon basically shows that when you were living under Stalin he was commander and chief

Totalitarianism vs. A Free State  One ruler who makes all decisions.  Government controls people to some extent.  People vote for representatives who decide what is best for the people.  Representatives help to decide what the governments course of action should be

Stalin’s Rise To Power  Tried to make the people that he was the countries father and savior.  He thought of himself as the symbol of the nation and projected it on to others.  Said he was going to keep the beliefs of V.I Lenin but warped them to his own liking.  Turned on communist party for absolute power.

5 Year Plan  The plan was to rebuild the Soviet Unions economy.  Doing this through natural resources such as oil, steel, and coal.  Set impossibly high quotas.

Collective Farms  These were farms made from smaller farms that the government collected.  Peasants rebelled for their land being taken.  Stalin had some where between 5 million and ten million peasants eliminated.

Life Under Stalin’s Rule  Children thanked him each morning before the school day began by saying “Thank Comrade Stalin for this happy life”.  He was revered as a God by his people in the beginning.  Stalin outlawed religion from being practiced.

Stalin’s Fall  Every other family in the country had at least one of their family members in jail. To have gone on would be economically, politically, and physically impossible with the prisons, and camps loaded.  The Nazi’s invaded the Soviet Union in 1941.Stalin was forced to release surviving prisoners to serve in the armed forces. The Soviet prisoners of war were sent to labor camps where the populations swelled to over 12 million by the time Stalin Finally died in March of 1953
