Why DIBELS? To Assess All 5 Components in the Shortest Amount of Time Phonological Awareness Phonemic Awareness ISF, PSF Phonics (Alphabetic Principle) NWF Fluency and Accuracy ORF VocabularyWUF ComprehensionORF, RTF

Are you DIBELS Savvy? Did you know… Students who benchmark in Phoneme Segmentation at the end of kindergarten will rank at 50 th percentile or greater on the SAT in 3 rd grade.

Are you DIBELS Savvy? Did you know… There is a.91 correlation between fluency (with prosody) and comprehension.

Administering DIBELS Testers will need clipboard, pen, and timer Testing script is provided

Administering DIBELS Oral Reading Fluency: See testing script Avoid “Ready, Set, Go!!!” Do not allow student to see the number countdown on the timer Do not use sand timers

Administering DIBELS Retell Fluency: See script. Do not question students. After 3 seconds, use prompt provided. Tally retelling of relevant details only. Remove passage before retell begins Goal of retelling is 50% of wcpm.

Miscues and Markings Any deviation from print is a miscue Mark any substitution, reversal, repeats, omissions, and insertions. Insertions are not included in the miscue count. At the end of 1 minute, place a bracket (]) after the last word read.

Scoring Locate the bracket marking the last word read. Use numbers to the right of bracket. Subtract miscues from total words. The student’s score is the median number of all 3 passages.
