Today’s Training for Tomorrow’s Jobs Helen Richardson, Janette Faherty OBE and Ben Marshall

Introducing the Digital Youth Academy Founded in 2011 by Penny Power, Social and Digital Media Entrepreneur Experienced industry Board Market leaders in the production of digital qualifications, products and services Solutions driven by business demand and young persons’ expertise – ‘Connecting the Born Digital to Business’ Partnership approach

Digital Youth Academy offer License Agreement Model Out of a box digital solutions – Innovative eLearning resources and materials Social Digital Apprenticeship – New fully-funded programme developed in partnership with Pearson Social Digital Routeway – Solution to Traineeships and the Study Programme Suite of Commercial Training Programmes to upskill businesses, acting as a hook for the Social Digital Apprenticeship Digital Citizenship DYA Community

The Digital Youth Academy fills the gap Connecting the Digital Generation to Business

Young People – A Unique Solution Have born digital skills – skills which are needed by businesses Make an immediate difference and impact to business – have something to teach business! Not necessarily the problem – part of solution Spend six hours per day connected! Need to be engaged through social/digital routes Need to move away from ‘traditional’ vocational routes e.g. retail, hairdressing. New jobs knowledge-based within young people. Move away from traditional learning styles – eLearning and mobile learning is in tune with school and young peoples’ learning nowadays Digital is the future and will drive and transform the economy Young talent looking for digital savvy employers - How savvy are we and how many of our solutions are digital as an industry?

Further backup… “36% of SMEs do not have a website. Of the 64% of those that do, 15% have no functionality beyond simply finding out information” Lloyds Bank / Go on UK “Social Media is the driver for the biggest transformation to business in a generation” Havas Businesses that use the Internet to do business grow four times faster than those who do not” Google “There are more than a million young people out of work. It’s a travesty that whilst businesses are crying out for digital skills, they are excluding from the workplace the very people who have them” O2 “People between the ages of 16 and 24 are the most connected group in history” Office of National Statistics

Feedback from an employer and a learner “Our Apprentice turned up with instant skills that didn’t exist in our business Turns traditional Apprenticeship model on its head, they teach us! No barriers to ROI and implementation They come with a confidence that they have immediate value and they really make a difference Financial risk mitigated Earns fees, pays her way and helps us build our business”

Real Results and impact… To date, 80% of learners who have undertaken the Social Digital Routeway as part of Foundation Learning have achieved their core Diploma. 70% of the completers have progressed into employment and or Apprenticeships – The Social Digital Apprenticeship.
